Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!

We are reading many different versions of the Gingerbread stories in order to learn about the story elements of Character and Setting.

We've read: The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Baby, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Friends, The Gingerbread Pirates, The Gingerbread Girl and more!

Building towers of 5 cubes. How many can we build in 2 minutes?
Ready, set, go!

How many towers did we make altogether?
84 towers!
How many cubes did we use?
Here's what your great math learners said:
"We can count them all. 1.2.3..."
"We can count by fives since a tower has five."
"A 5 tower and a 5 tower is 10!"
"We can count by tens!"
420 cubes!

Mr. Urban, our Guidance Counselor, teaching a lesson on fairness during a social skills lesson.

Before the dice game Mr. Urban asks:
"Are you ready to win? Are you ready to loose?
Do we agree on the rules?"
Passing a plate of Teddy Grahams. There were enough for everyone to have one with a few leftover.
Some wanted another. Would that be fair?

Fit Spots

Some of the other teachers at BES were interested in the daily exercise routine in my classroom. We made this movie to share what we do! As you'll hear at the end of the video exercise sends oxygen to the brain which increases learning. The video also shows breathing exercises that help calm our bodies. Enjoy!

Library time with Mrs. Ginalski always starts with the Bookworm Poem.

The bookworm climbed to the top of the tree.
"I think I'll read my book" said he.
Sitting down, he opened his book.
"Here, everyone take a look
I love my book, it's so much fun
Turning the pages one by one!"

Sorting pictures by the first sound during Readers Workshop.
Slide starts with S.
Tiger starts with T.
This is a great game to play in the car.  "I see a pumpkin. What letter does pumpkin start with?"

Shape challenge: Make a square with 12 popsicle sticks. It's tricky!
Build more than one square.

We are scientists and use our 5 senses to learn about the world.

SHAPES! Kindergarten kids are busy making, naming and finding shapes in our school.

Ok, this one is for me! Here's my son Jack reading to the class.
He was more engaging than I could ever be!

On Fridays all three K classes get together for Morning Meeting. That's 44 Kindergarten friends! This week we were the hosts. Here we are teaching the other classes a fun activity called "Hey There, Neighbor!"
Hey There, Neighbor! What do ya say?
It's going to be a dynamite day!
Grab your hands and circle around around
Reach real high and boogie on down."
This is clearly the "boogie on down" part!

Here I go......

Welcome to my Blog!
I've never seen it, but PBS really does have a show called Betsy's Kindergarten Adventures! I guess I really was meant to be in Kindergarten. Our Kindergarten Team (The K Team) sends home a weekly newsletter and I e-mail families small info. often so I don't plan on using this blog for basic communication. I'd like to use this for sharing pictures and a deeper understanding of what goes on in our classroom. So, check in often and take a peek at our busy kindergarten days!
